The North Queensland Cowboys have appointed Ricky Henry as their new NRLW head coach for the next three seasons, replacing Ben Jeffries who will move to the Newcastle Knights. Henry, who recently helped the Kiwi Ferns secure a shock victory over Australia in the Pacific Championships, will take over the reins in Townsville.
Henry was originally set to coach the Warriors in the NSW Cup this year but will now lead the Cowboys' women's team. The Cowboys joined the NRLW in 2023 and finished ninth with only two wins in their inaugural season. Henry expressed confidence in the squad's potential, stating, 'The Cowboys have a talented squad with a lot of potential and great leaders.'
Cowboys general manager of football Micheal Luck praised Henry's extensive coaching background, including experience in junior pathways and elite women's rugby league. 'We are excited for the contributions he will make to women’s rugby league in North Queensland,' Luck said.
Henry's international experience is expected to help the Cowboys improve their competitiveness in the upcoming season. The club aims to build on its foundations and become a stronger contender in the NRLW.
