Teen Sensation Rylan Gray Joins DJR After Davison Exit

Teenage Super2 prodigy Rylan Gray has left Tickford Racing to earn his first full-time Supercars seat with Dick Johnson Racing in 2026. The 18-year-old, who currently leads the Super2 Series heading into the final round in Adelaide, is set to replace veteran Will Davison after his shock departure from DJR. He will partner 2023 Supercars champion Brodie Kostecki in the Shell V-Power Racing Team.

Gray got a taste of the Supercars Championship in three wildcard round appearances for Tickford this year, but with incumbent stars Cam Waters and Thomas Randle contracted until at least 2027, the youngster had to search elsewhere for a proper shot at the big time.

Tickford Racing CEO Simon Brookhouse said the teenager leaves with their blessing. “Everyone at Tickford Racing is very supportive and excited to see Rylan be offered this fantastic opportunity for next year,” he said. “Rylan’s achievements with the team have been nothing short of spectacular.”

Gray first appeared for Tickford at the 2023 Super3 finale in Adelaide, just days after turning 17. He became the youngest ever Super2 race winner when he claimed a victory at Bathurst last year, still only 17. This year, he has finished off the podium just twice in 10 Super2 starts.

Tickford managing director Rod Nash said Gray deserves his shot. “I commend Rylan for his commitment and success within the Tickford Autosport Program,” Nash said. “The development of his race craft over the journey with the team has been special to watch and he is truly deserving of this opportunity.”

Gray is one of eight-plus drivers who have progressed through the Tickford Autosport program to a full-time Supercars seat. Tickford are assured of winning their first Super2 title since 2016, with Gray and teammates Lochie Dalton, Nash Morris, and Reuben Goodall the only mathematical chances left in contention.
