PowerPlay Plans Indoor Go-Karting Venue in Welshpool

A development application has been lodged for a new indoor go-karting facility in Welshpool, part of the City of Canning. The proposed venue, by PowerPlay, would be located on the corner of Welshpool Road and Pilbara Street, converting two warehouses into an electric go-karting centre.

PowerPlay operates indoor electric go-kart racing on unique two-level tracks featuring ramps and bridges. Its first centre opened in Joondalup in 2020, followed by Bibra Lake in 2022 and Malaga in 2024. The karts can drift, spin, and reach speeds up to 70 km/h, though they are not driven at that speed on the tracks.

If approved, the centre would operate from 9am to 9pm seven days a week, with a maximum capacity of 80 people at any time, including staff, participants, and onlookers. It expects an average of 264 patrons per day. The site has 25 parking bays for exclusive use.

The facility would also include electronic amusement games and a mezzanine party zone. The proponent stated, 'We are committed to ensuring that this facility enhances the recreational offerings in the Welshpool area while operating in a safe and responsible manner.'

PowerPlay CEO Glenn Macneall, who has participated in over 100 World Rally Championship events, said the venue blends competitive motorsports with the thrill of racing, making it accessible to everyone. 'It doesn't matter if you're a serial revhead or a karting first-timer, you can join the fun,' he said.

Public comments on the proposal close at 5pm on Wednesday, December 3, after which the City of Canning will consider the application.
