Just 82 days after the 2025 Supercars season ended, newly crowned champion Chaz Mostert and Walkinshaw Andretti United are already focused on their next race: defending the title with the Toyota GR Supra. Five Supras will join the grid in 2026, with Mostert's car carrying the No.1 as reigning champion.
Toyota Australia vice president Sean Hanley expressed hope for Mostert to secure the championship, saying it would be a great start for the Supra program. The team recently completed shakedown laps at Toyota's Altona test track after an engine issue prevented running at Sandown. A second prototype will undergo wind tunnel testing in the US alongside the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro.
WAU team principal Carl Faux emphasized the priority is ensuring the Supra is reliable, with a target of competing for podiums and wins in its first year. He acknowledged a teething period but stressed the importance of avoiding parity issues, referencing past problems with the Mustang. Drivers expect the main differences to be in engine power delivery and aerodynamics, with the Supra's 5.2L V8 and sleek design offering a distinct feel.
