Chaz Mostert has cut the gap to Supercars championship leader Broc Feeney to just 13 points after Friday's sprint race at the Adelaide grand final. The race was red-flagged early due to heavy rain, with Brodie Kostecki claiming victory and a $50,000 prize.
Kostecki, driving for Dick Johnson Racing, secured his third win of the season after pole-sitter Feeney lost top spot on lap three. Feeney locked his tyres and ran wide at turn four of the rain-soaked street circuit, allowing Kostecki to take the lead.
Mostert, of Walkinshaw Andretti United, finished second but was cautious not to risk his title hopes with two more races remaining. Ryan Wood finished third, while Feeney settled for fourth. Will Brown finished ninth, a blow to his title defence, and Kai Allen was fifth.
The title battle now involves Feeney, Mostert, defending champion Will Brown, and Kai Allen. Kostecki's win earned him $50,000, a consolation after being eliminated in the first finals round on the Gold Coast.
Earlier, Brad Jones Racing's Andre Heimgartner stopped with an engine failure, causing an oil leak that led to Kostecki crashing in qualifying. Brown's race was derailed on the opening lap when Thomas Randle spun him around, earning Randle a 15-second penalty before he crashed heavily on lap 20. Cam Waters also received a 15-second penalty for spinning Cooper Murray.
