Beresfield Golf Course in Newcastle has officially reopened to the public after being closed since the previous operator's lease ended in September. City of Newcastle and new operator ClubLinks held a celebration on Tuesday ahead of the Wednesday reopening.
Among the first to tee off were Wallsend MP Sonia Hornery and Newcastle councillors Callum Pull, Deahnna Richardson, and Elizabeth Adamczyk. The council used the closure period to undertake key upgrades, including replacing failed bridges and repairing on-course buildings and facilities.
ClubLinks Management has signed a 15-year lease and plans future enhancements such as a multi-bay driving range, course improvements, and Newcastle's first dedicated padel courts. Padel is a sport combining elements of tennis and squash, played with paddles.
City of Newcastle corporate services executive director David Clarke said the long-term lease would ensure the course remains a sustainable community asset. “We've selected the ideal operator that can leverage strong local support for our facility,” he said. “Our recent upgrades will provide a solid foundation for long-term success and increase safety for players and staff.”
ClubLinks chief executive Anthony Lawrence said the company aims to create a vibrant, inclusive space. “Expect improved facilities, expanded programs, and innovative experiences focused on accessibility, sustainability, and outstanding service,” he said.
