Brooks Koepka, a five-time major winner, has announced his departure from LIV Golf following the conclusion of the 2025 season. The 35-year-old cited family priorities as the reason for his decision, stating he wants to spend more time at home.
Koepka signed with the Saudi-backed league in 2022 and reportedly had one year remaining on his contract. His departure is a significant blow to LIV Golf, which gained credibility when Koepka won the 2023 PGA Championship while playing on the breakaway tour.
During his four seasons with LIV, Koepka won five events but occasionally expressed frustration with the league's format, which features 54-hole, no-cut tournaments. He previously stated he was fulfilling a contract obligation before reassessing his future.
Koepka's last LIV appearance was on August 24 at the one-day LIV Golf Michigan event. Under PGA Tour rules, LIV exiles must sit out one year from their last LIV tournament, though the PGA Tour could offer an exemption. The tour issued a statement wishing Koepka success but gave no indication of an exemption.
LIV Golf announced that Talor Gooch will replace Koepka as captain of the Smash GC team. LIV CEO Scott O'Neill thanked Koepka for his impact on the game and wished him continued success.
Koepka, who won nine PGA Tour events during his nine seasons on that tour, remains eligible for all four majors in 2026 thanks to his 2023 PGA Championship victory. He did not share immediate plans for his competitive future.
