Germany delivered a stunning performance on Saturday, thrashing Curacao 8-0 in a World Cup qualifier at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Stuttgart. The victory keeps Germany firmly on track for qualification to the 2026 tournament.
First-Half Dominance
The hosts took control from the opening whistle. Kai Havertz opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a clinical finish after a precise pass from Jamal Musiala. Musiala then doubled the lead in the 24th minute, curling a shot into the top corner from outside the box. Havertz added his second of the match in the 35th minute, heading home a cross from Joshua Kimmich. Germany went into halftime with a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Second-Half Onslaught
The second half saw no let-up from the German side. Leroy Sané made it 4-0 in the 52nd minute with a powerful strike from the edge of the area. Havertz completed his hat-trick in the 63rd minute, slotting home after a defensive error from Curacao. Musiala then scored his second of the game in the 71st minute, finishing a swift counter-attack. Substitute Niclas Füllkrug added a seventh in the 78th minute, and Serge Gnabry rounded off the scoring in the 85th minute with a deflected shot.
Curacao's Struggles
Curacao, ranked 84th in the world, struggled to cope with Germany's relentless pressure. They managed only one shot on target throughout the match, a long-range effort from Leandro Bacuna that was easily saved by Marc-André ter Stegen. The defeat leaves Curacao bottom of their qualifying group with zero points.
Key Performances
