England Choose Kansas City as World Cup Training Base in US
England Pick Kansas City for World Cup Training Base

England's national football team has officially chosen Kansas City's Swope Park as their training base for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The decision was announced by the Football Association on Monday, highlighting the state-of-the-art facilities and strategic location as key factors.

Why Kansas City?

The FA's director of football operations said the venue offers world-class training pitches, recovery amenities, and easy access to multiple host cities. Kansas City's central location in the US makes it an ideal hub for the tournament's group stage and potential knockout rounds.

Swope Park's training complex, home to Sporting Kansas City's youth academy, features multiple grass fields, a gym, and medical facilities. The England squad will also have access to nearby hotels and transport links.

Preparation and Legacy

England manager Gareth Southgate emphasized the importance of a settled base for team cohesion. “Having a consistent environment allows players to focus on performance,” he said. The FA also plans to engage with local football communities during their stay.

The choice follows a trend of top nations securing dedicated bases early. England previously used a base in Moscow during the 2018 World Cup, reaching the semi-finals. Kansas City officials welcomed the decision, expecting a boost in local football interest.

Other Nations' Bases

Several other teams have also announced training locations, including Brazil in Los Angeles and Germany in New York. The 2026 World Cup will feature 48 teams, with matches spread across 16 cities in North America.
