Perth Scorchers have won their first Women's Big Bash League title, defeating Adelaide Strikers by 12 runs in the final at a packed stadium. South African allrounder Marizanne Kapp was named Player of the Match for her all-round performance, scoring an unbeaten 31 off 23 balls and taking 1-25, including a maiden over against her wife and Strikers opener Dane van Niekerk.
The Scorchers posted 5-146 after being sent in to bat, with openers Sophie Devine (35) and Beth Mooney (19) sharing a 52-run stand. Kapp and Alana King provided crucial late runs. In reply, the Strikers were restricted to 2-16 in the powerplay and finished at 6-134, with captain Tahlia McGrath top-scoring with 36.
The crowd of 15,511 was the highest ever for a standalone WBBL match. The Scorchers, who had lost both previous finals appearances, secured their first title in the competition's seventh year. The fourth-placed Strikers reached the final after winning two elimination finals in two days.
