Mitch Marsh's Sheffield Shield Return Ends in Controversy

Mitchell Marsh's Sheffield Shield return ended in disappointment on Saturday as he fell cheaply in the second innings for Western Australia against Victoria at the MCG. Marsh made just 4 runs off 16 balls, adding to his first-innings score of 9, before being caught in the deep by David Moody off the bowling of Sam Elliott.

Marsh batted at No. 4 after Western Australia sent in Corey Rocchiccioli as a nightwatchman. His dismissal left the visitors at 3-17, still trailing Victoria by 44 runs. The all-rounder had been speculated as a potential late addition to Australia's top order for the Ashes series, similar to Sam Konstas.

Sam Elliott continued his impressive match, having taken 5-33 in the first innings, and dismissed both Rocchiccioli and Marsh. Victoria, who have won four of their five Shield matches this summer, were in a commanding position at the time of Marsh's dismissal.

The performance gives Australian selectors little to consider as they look ahead to the Ashes, with Marsh failing to make a significant impact in his return to first-class cricket.
