Michael Hussey launches 'once in a lifetime' WACA Ashes glamping

West Australian cricket legend Michael Hussey has teamed up with Airbnb to offer four lucky fans a unique glamping experience on the WACA outfield ahead of the first Ashes Test at Optus Stadium. The free opportunity, available from 9am AWST on November 7 via airbnb.com/WACA, includes a night in a tent filled with cricket memorabilia from the 1970s to the present day, including items from Hussey's personal collection such as bats used for international centuries.

Guests will be woken for breakfast with Hussey in the WACA's Bradman Room before taking to the outfield for a game of backyard cricket against the former Test batter. Winners and losers alike will then receive tickets to the sold-out first day of the Test match against England.

Hussey said he wanted to share the history of the WACA and his own experiences playing on the ground. 'As a kid growing up here in Perth and watching my heroes like Dennis Lillee and Rod Marsh play, I just dreamt of one day being able to play on this famous ground,' he said. 'I want to share some of those experiences and make them aware of how lucky they are to come onto this ground.'

WACA CEO John Stephenson said the initiative was part of the venue's goal to remain accessible to fans after most international matches moved to Optus Stadium. 'It's a unique opportunity to sleep on the hallowed turf of the WACA ground,' he said.
