Cam Green Cleared to Bowl in Next Ashes Clash

Cameron Green is set to bowl with his new action in Western Australia's Sheffield Shield clash against Queensland, marking a crucial step ahead of the Ashes. The 26-year-old all-rounder is expected to bowl 15 to 20 overs in the match, his first significant bowling stint since October 5, when he bowled just four overs against NSW.

Green's return to bowling comes after a long and cautious recovery from surgery on a stress fracture in his lower back in October 2024. He has been working on minor changes to his action, including adjusting his run-up angle and front foot placement, to reduce strain on his back. 'It is not like there has been a complete reinvention of my action,' Green told AAP.

Green's ability to bowl without issue this week could influence selection decisions for the first Test in Perth, starting next Friday. Selectors are weighing up whether to include an extra all-rounder in Beau Webster or a specialist opener in Jake Weatherald. Neither player made a big score for Tasmania against South Australia on Monday.

Chief selector George Bailey expressed confidence in Green's readiness, stating that the all-rounder does not need to bowl 30 to 40 overs in a Test. 'We are confident we will get good information from this round of Shield cricket and he will be bowling for us,' Bailey said.
