Jude Bellingham's Extra-Time Winner Sends England to World Cup Semi-Finals
Bellingham Sinks Norway, England Reach World Cup Semi-Finals

Jude Bellingham scored an extra-time winner as England came from behind to beat Norway and progress to the World Cup semi-finals for the second time in three editions of the tournament.

Bellingham's Double Sinks Norway

Bellingham was first to react after Ørjan Håskjold Nyland had fumbled Morgan Rogers's shot early in extra time, firing home his sixth goal of the competition and sending England into a last-four meeting with either Argentina or Switzerland. The midfielder had scored England's equaliser in the first half, cancelling out Andreas Schjelderup's opener for Norway.

First Half Action

England dominated the ball in the opening exchanges without carving out any clearcut chances and the hydration break came at a good time for Norway. There was a scare for Thomas Tuchel's side on 33 minutes as John Stones's error almost created a chance for Erling Haaland. England failed to heed that warning, however.

Three minutes later Patrick Berg robbed Harry Kane of the ball inside the England half and fed the ball wide to Schjelderup. The Benfica winger appeared to be shaping to cross, but his fizzing delivery flew into the net off Jordan Pickford's far post.

Martin Ødegaard and Alexander Sørloth both had efforts as a shellshocked England initially struggled to regroup but Bellingham restored parity in first-half injury-time, collecting Anthony Gordon's pass on the edge of the area and smartly evading his markers before firing past Nyland.

There was time for Kane to have a goal ruled out for offside before the interval and 10 minutes after the break it was Norway's turn to have a goal disallowed, with Torbjørn Heggem turning home from close range after a series of corners. A video assistant referee review found that Haaland had pushed Elliot Anderson to the ground just before the corner was taken.

Second Half Tensions

Chances became increasingly scarce as time ticked away and the tension grew, with Norway coming closest to breaking the game open on 75 minutes, Kristoffer Ajer's heading pinging off the bar after England had failed to clear another corner. Saka's inswinging cross moments later bounced dangerously in the six-yard box but just evaded Anderson at the far post.

Saka almost created a winner with three minutes to go, wriggling into the box and crossing low only for Fredrik Aursnes to clear from close to his own goalline, before the substitute Djed Spence came close to blocking a Nyland clearance into the Norway net in the first minute of stoppage time.

Extra Time Drama

Three minutes into extra time England had the lead for the first time. Morgan Rogers's effort from 25 yards should have been dealt with comfortably by Nyland, but the Norway goalkeeper fumbled the shot and Bellingham pounced.

Six minutes later Spence tumbled under Oscar Bobb's challenge in the area. Referee Clement Turpin pointed to the spot but then overturned his decision after a VAR review. England were denied the cushion but held on for another hard-fought victory.
