Patty Mills Waived by Hawks, Open to NBA Return

Patty Mills has been waived by the Atlanta Hawks, leaving the Australian guard without an NBA contract as his 15th season winds down. The 35-year-old played just 19 games for Atlanta, averaging 2.7 points and 1.1 rebounds in 10 minutes per game.

Mills has made 879 career appearances, mostly with the San Antonio Spurs, with whom he won an NBA championship in 2014. He also played for Portland, Brooklyn, and Atlanta. The Hawks upgraded undrafted guard Trent Forrest to a standard deal after waiving Mills.

Former teammate Kevin Durant praised Mills earlier this week, calling him a 'flat-out legend' and noting his passion for basketball and Australian culture. Durant said Mills' journey should be spoken about with the best.

Speculation has emerged about a potential return to the Spurs, who recently bought out Marcus Morris. The Spurs, led by rookie Victor Wembanyama, are near the bottom of the Western Conference and could use veteran leadership. Mills has not ruled out an NBA return.
