Aryna Sabalenka continued her dominant run at Wimbledon, dispatching Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 6-1 on Thursday to book her place in the third round. The world No. 2 extended her winning streak to 10 matches, showcasing the form that has made her a title contender.
Sabalenka's Clinical Performance
Sabalenka broke Ostapenko's serve four times and won 78% of her first-serve points, overpowering the former French Open champion with her aggressive baseline game. The Belarusian saved both break points she faced, demonstrating improved composure under pressure.
“I think I played really well today,” Sabalenka said. “I served well and used my power to dictate points. Ostapenko is a dangerous opponent, but I stayed focused on my game plan.”
Ostapenko's Struggle for Rhythm
Ostapenko, ranked 13th, struggled to find her range, committing 28 unforced errors compared to Sabalenka's 15. The Latvian's erratic play allowed Sabalenka to race through the second set in just 28 minutes.
Streak Continues
Sabalenka's 10-match winning streak includes her title run at the Berlin Open last week, where she defeated Coco Gauff in the final. She has dropped only one set in her last five matches, underlining her status as one of the favourites at the All England Club.
Next Challenge
Sabalenka will face either Madison Keys or Petra Martic in the third round. The 25-year-old has reached the semifinals at Wimbledon twice before and is aiming to go one step further this year.
