Arthur Fery, the 22-year-old British qualifier who captivated Wimbledon with a run to the fourth round, has declared he needs a break after his fairytale journey. Speaking after his 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 loss to world number 10 Jannik Sinner on Monday, Fery said: "I think I need some time off, to be honest. It's been a whirlwind."
Breakthrough Performance at SW19
Fery, ranked 198th in the world, entered Wimbledon as a qualifier and won three matches to reach the main draw. He then defeated David Goffin, Francisco Cerundolo, and Alex de Minaur to become the first British qualifier to reach the fourth round since 2012. His run earned him £310,000 in prize money and a surge in ranking points, projected to lift him inside the top 150.
Against Sinner, Fery showed resilience but was ultimately outclassed. He saved four set points in the first set but could not sustain the challenge. "He's a top player, and I learned a lot," Fery said. "But I'm proud of what I achieved."
Plans for a Well-Deserved Rest
Fery confirmed he will take a holiday before resuming training. "I haven't had a proper break in months. I'll go somewhere warm, switch off, and then come back stronger," he said. His coach, Mark Hilton, added: "Arthur has been incredible. He needs to recharge mentally and physically."
