Perth Football Club Suspended Over Costume Scandal

Osborne Park Amateur Football Club has been suspended for two years by the Perth Football League after an end-of-season function where a player dressed as Stephen Hawking with a prop containing a doctored image of a child in a pornographic context.

The league met on Monday to decide the club's fate, finding that the conduct at Robinson Reserve in Tuart Hill breached integrity standards and brought the game into disrepute. Senior club officials were present but failed to act, according to PFL boss Andrew Dawe.

The City of Stirling terminated the club's lease after officers found the prop, prompting police attendance. Mayor Mark Irwin noted the club had a history of issues, including a special clause in their 2023 licence about behaviour.

WA Police investigated but determined no criminality. Club president Jeremy LaBianca described the costume as distasteful and unacceptable, saying the prop featured a photo of the player himself. The club did not disclose the player's identity or provide a submission to the league board.
