AFL Premiership Player James Harmes Takes Indefinite Leave from Western Bulldogs

Western Bulldogs midfielder James Harmes has been granted personal leave from AFL pre-season, becoming the latest premiership player to step away from the game.

The 30-year-old has not returned to the club following the Christmas break, with no timeline set for his return as he deals with a delicate personal situation away from the Kennel.

Harmes is considered unlikely to feature early in the 2026 campaign. He played 13 games for the Bulldogs in 2025, his second season at the club after crossing from Melbourne, where he won a premiership in 2021.
