West Coast Eagles breathed a sigh of relief on the first day of AFL pre-season after young star Harley Reid caused a brief scare. During a fitness test at Mineral Resources Park on Monday, Reid stopped suddenly, pointing to his calf, leading to concerns of an injury.
7NEWS Perth reporter Ryan Daniels, who was at the session, initially reported that Reid had pulled out of the maximal aerobic speed (MAS) test. However, it was later confirmed that the issue was cramp, and Reid soon returned to training. Daniels noted that Hamish Davis won the test, holding off Clay Hall.
Reid spoke with fitness staff and coach Andrew McQualter before receiving treatment on the sidelines. He was later seen doing short passes alongside Nic Naitanui. The incident comes after Reid told The West Australian last week that he had focused on improving his endurance during the off-season.
Several experienced players, including captain Liam Duggan, Elliot Yeo, and Jamie Cripps, joined the session but followed their own training program. CEO Don Pyke emphasized the importance of a strong summer, stating that the players have the right attitude to do the work needed to climb back up the ladder.
