Gold Coast Suns coach Damien Hardwick unleashed a furious spray on his players during the three-quarter time break of their 79-point loss to Adelaide on Saturday night. The Suns trailed by 60 points at that stage and were completely outclassed by the rampant Crows, who piled on another six goals in the final term to seal a comprehensive victory.
Hardwick's Fiery Response
According to Fox Footy commentator Adam Papalia, Hardwick was "extremely upset with his side's performance up until this point in the game." Papalia described the coach staring his players "straight into the eyeballs" during the break. However, the spray did little to inspire a turnaround, as Adelaide continued to dominate.
Suns' Season in Freefall
The loss was the Suns' seventh straight defeat, leaving them in 14th place with a 7-10 record. A season that began with high hopes—many pundits tipping them for a top-six finish—is now hanging by a thread. Former Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley noted, "I think every tipster across the country would have had them in the top six, most would have had them in the top four. This has been some sort of fall. It's almost season done... wildcard would be their best result."
Crows Shine
While the Suns struggled, Adelaide delivered a brilliant performance. Taylor Walker finished with 5.4 and now needs just one more goal to reach 700 in his career. Captain Jordan Dawson racked up 29 touches and two goals, while Izak Rankine and Sam Berry were also influential. The win keeps the Crows' finals hopes alive as they continue to build momentum.
