Port Adelaide forward Mitch Georgiades suffered a concussion after a brutal mid-air collision with St Kilda ruckman Rowan Marshall during the second quarter of their clash on Saturday, and was subsequently ruled out of the remainder of the match.
Collision Details
Both players had eyes only for the ball as they contested a high mark, colliding heavily in mid-air. The impact was immediate and severe, drawing gasps from the crowd and concern from commentators.
Leigh Montagna described the incident as a massive collision, noting that two players were down and calling it huge. Gerard Healy added that Georgiades has had a bad couple of weeks in that area, referencing previous head knocks.
Medical Assessment and Outcome
Georgiades managed to get to his feet and leave the field under his own power but was immediately taken for a head injury assessment (HIA). Port later confirmed that he would take no further part in the game due to concussion.
St Kilda started strongly, building a six-goal lead by halftime. However, Port Adelaide fought back in the third quarter, cutting the margin to single figures. More details to come.
