Iain Findlay, a 77-year-old former AFL tribunal advocate and Vietnam veteran, is recovering in hospital after being dragged under a car during a road rage incident on Melbourne's Monash Freeway. The incident occurred last week when Findlay, a former police detective, confronted another driver after a rock was thrown at his car.
According to Findlay, he exited his Lexus sedan to push the driver aside and obtain details, but the driver of a Toyota Yaris accelerated, striking him and dragging him approximately 80 metres. Findlay suffered severe injuries, including layers of skin removed from his legs, and doctors expect him to remain hospitalised for another month.
Seven News reporter Xander McGuire described Findlay as 'lucky to be alive.' Police confirmed a 19-year-old male driver of the Toyota was expected to be charged over the hit-and-run collision. The driver fled the scene but was stopped by good Samaritans and arrested.
Police are investigating and appealing for witnesses with dashcam footage. Findlay, known for representing AFL figures like Wayne Carey and Matthew Lloyd, also served as team manager for Victoria and clubs including Essendon, Fitzroy, and South Melbourne.
