West Coast Eagles premiership hero Dom Sheed is facing an uncertain football future after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during training on Monday. The club confirmed the injury on Tuesday, stating he will miss an 'extended period of time'.
Sheed, who turns 30 in April, managed only eight games last season due to foot and hamstring issues. Eagles general manager of football Gavin Bell described the incident as 'innocuous' and expressed disappointment given Sheed's recent injury struggles.
Sheed etched his name in AFL history by kicking the match-winning goal in the 2018 Grand Final against Collingwood, securing the club's fourth premiership with just 1 minute and 50 seconds remaining. However, his output has declined, with only 24 games in the past three seasons.
The injury follows a similar setback for 2018 premiership teammate Elliot Yeo, who suffered knee and ankle damage in a training incident late last month. Yeo is expected to return early in the season.
