Daicos to Hand Over No.35 Jumper for State of Origin

Collingwood star Nick Daicos has confirmed he will give up his No.35 jumper if Patrick Dangerfield is selected for Victoria's State of Origin clash against Western Australia. The match is scheduled for February 14 at Optus Stadium.

Daicos, who has worn the number 95 times for the Magpies, acknowledged Dangerfield's seniority. 'We'll have to wait and see, I think Danger obviously gets first dibs,' Daicos said. 'I might have to work out whether I take the No.3 or No.5.'

The 22-year-old is part of a star-studded Victorian squad that includes Marcus Bontempelli, Matt Rowell, Zak Butters, and Jeremy Cameron. Daicos expressed excitement about reuniting with former schoolmate Rowell and hopes to play alongside his brother Josh.

Daicos emphasized the importance of the match, stating, 'It's a huge honour to play for Victoria. We want to do them proud. We want to get the win.' He also noted that players will be giving full effort despite being two weeks out from the AFL season.

Meanwhile, Daicos reflected on Collingwood's 2024 preliminary final loss to Brisbane, drawing parallels to their 2022 defeat that preceded a 2023 premiership. 'We're pretty focused on getting better and getting back there next year and going a couple steps further,' he said.
