Shellharbour City Council has appointed Wayde Peterson as its new chief executive officer. Peterson had been acting in the role for the past 10 months following the departure of former CEO Mike Archer in February.
The decision was made during an extraordinary council meeting on Tuesday, where the recruitment panel addressed councillors in a confidential session. Peterson previously served as the council's Executive Director of Business Enterprises.
Peterson began his career at Shellharbour City Council as an engineering cadet in 2000. After pursuing other opportunities, he returned for a second stint in 2018.
Mayor Chris Homer praised Peterson's leadership, stating, 'Wayde's leadership skills, strategic vision and genuine commitment to community will be invaluable in helping shape that future.'
Peterson, who was born and raised in the Illawarra, expressed his honor at the appointment. He emphasized the council's role in delivering infrastructure and services to improve quality of life, and his commitment to collaboration with staff, councillors, and the community.
