Shellharbour City Council is set to potentially appoint a new chief executive officer at an extraordinary meeting scheduled for 8pm tonight, November 4. The sole item on the agenda is a confidential verbal report on the CEO recruitment process.
The meeting will include a confidential session for discussion, followed by an open vote on any decisions reached. A recruitment panel has been vetting candidates and is expected to present a shortlist to all councillors, who will have the opportunity to question the candidates.
If councillors agree on a candidate, the decision could be announced tonight. The need for a new CEO arose after the council voted to terminate the contract of former CEO Mike Archer in August. Wayde Peterson has served as acting CEO since then.
The recruitment panel, approved in August, consists of Mayor Homer, Deputy Mayor Kellie Marsh, Councillor Moira Hamilton, and Councillor Kane Murphy. In September, Councillor Rob Petreski attempted to have all councillors serve on the panel, but the motion was not debated after another councillor changed their mind.
