The $1 million upgrade to Mirrabooka Town Square has been completed, delivering a revitalised community space with new colour, greenery, and amenities. The project, overseen by the City of Stirling, was funded through the 2024-25 annual budget.
Located between the Mirrabooka Bus Station and The Square Mirrabooka shopping centre, the square now features native trees and plants, public art installations, bench seating, upgraded lighting, and an alfresco wooden deck connected to the new Dome café. The final design prioritised sustainability, greening and cooling, safety, and vibrancy.
Community input gathered over 18 months through workshops and forums shaped the concept landscape design. Stirling mayor Mark Irwin said the upgrade delivers on residents’ desires for a safer, greener, and cooler space, creating a welcoming central meeting place.
Public art includes 30 decorated bollards along Sudbury Road, created in partnership with Boyare Primary School students, large shade sails featuring designs by a Nyoongar artist, and three wood carvings including a climbable sculpture near stepping stones for children.
The upgrade is part of the city’s broader strategy under the Mirrabooka Town Activity Centre Plan. Other developments include Perth Glory’s relocation to Stirling Leisure - Mirrabooka, with $1.9m in government funding for training facility upgrades, and approval of a $1.8m shared path along Mirrabooka Avenue.
