Townsville Man Charged With Child Exploitation Material

Queensland detectives have charged a 71-year-old Townsville man with 59 offences related to child exploitation material. Lau Hansen was arrested at his home on Monday after an undercover officer infiltrated online child exploitation networks.

Police allege Hansen controlled and maintained libraries of child exploitation material across several encrypted platforms. He is also accused of being involved in networks with up to 500 others discussing the sexual abuse of children.

A search warrant executed at Hansen's property uncovered a large volume of digital and printed child exploitation material, as well as evidence of his roles within the encrypted platforms.

Hansen faced the Townsville Magistrates Court on Tuesday, where Magistrate Ken Taylor denied him bail, citing a high risk of reoffending. He was remanded in custody.
