Man on Trial for Sister's Murder Allegedly Stabbed Her Six Times, Townsville Court Hears

A Townsville court has heard that a man accused of murdering his sister allegedly told relatives he was responsible for her death. Dennis William Sore, 43, is on trial in the Townsville Supreme Court, charged with murdering 49-year-old Samantha Rose Bong at a unit in Pimlico in February 2020.

Crown prosecutor Andrew Walklate alleged that Mr Sore called another sister on the night of the death and said he had killed Ms Bong. Police arrived at the unit just after midnight and found Ms Bong in a pool of blood on the lounge room floor, with Mr Sore sitting nearby holding his phone and a large carving knife.

Ms Bong was declared dead at the scene, and an autopsy found she had been stabbed multiple times. The court heard of deep stab wounds to the back of the chest and left lower back, as well as wounds to the abdomen, back of the thigh, neck, and a puncture wound to the front of the chest. Defensive wounds on her arms and blunt force injuries were also noted.

The court was shown CCTV footage from hours before the death, depicting Mr Sore, Ms Bong, and their mother together at the Centenary Hotel in Townsville, where Ms Bong was seen dancing with her mother. Additional CCTV from a taxi showed the trio traveling together that night.

Police photographs from the unit showed broken crockery and furniture in the hallway and kitchen, blood stains on the couch, and bloody footprints in the hallway. Mr Sore's mother and siblings are expected to give evidence in the coming days.
