Three Teens Charged After Alleged Carjacking and Police Pursuits in Camden
Teens charged over Camden carjacking and police pursuits

A dramatic series of events unfolded in Sydney's southwest on Saturday, resulting in three teenagers being charged by police following an alleged carjacking and two separate high-speed pursuits.

Chaos on Camden Streets

The incident began around midday on Saturday when police attempted to stop a reportedly stolen vehicle travelling along Camden Valley Way in Camden. The car, allegedly carrying three teenagers, failed to stop, initiating a police pursuit. The chase continued towards the Camden CBD but was terminated due to the dangerous driving of the suspects. The vehicle was seen hitting several other cars, mounting a footpath, and driving on the wrong side of the road. It was later found abandoned after colliding with a tree near William Avenue.

Violent Carjacking and Second Pursuit

A short time later, the situation escalated significantly. Police were called to Lerida Avenue in Camden after a 26-year-old man was approached by three teenagers. The group allegedly assaulted the man, punching him and forcibly dragging him from his BMW sedan. The teenagers then allegedly stole the luxury vehicle and drove away. The stolen BMW was spotted just minutes later, prompting a second police pursuit through the suburb of Elderslie towards the Camden CBD. This pursuit was also terminated for safety reasons.

Car Found Ablaze and Arrests Made

Approximately twenty minutes after the carjacking, emergency services were called to Onslow Park where they discovered the stolen BMW completely engulfed in flames. The fire spread to nearby grassland, sparking a grass fire that required fire crews to extinguish. The vehicle was a total loss. Police arrested two 16-year-old boys and a 13-year-old girl at the scene. All three were refused bail and are scheduled to appear in a children's court on Sunday. One of the boys faces eight charges, including not stopping during a police pursuit, drug possession, and breaching bail. The other boy and the girl were each charged with two offences: riding in a car taken without consent and robbery in company.
