Accused Terrorist Compared Stabbing Neighbour to Eating a Chocolate Bar, Court Hears

A Sydney man on trial for the attempted murder of his neighbour allegedly compared the stabbing to 'eating a Picnic bar', a court heard on Wednesday. Ihsas Khan, 22, is charged with committing a terrorist act with the intent to influence the Australian Government and attempted murder for stabbing Wayne Greenhalgh with a hunting knife on September 10, 2016.

During an interview with a detective, Khan reportedly said he felt nothing about the attack. When asked how he would feel if the victim died, Khan allegedly replied that stabbing Greenhalgh was like eating a chocolate bar. He claimed he carried out the attack to avenge the rape of an Iraqi woman by American soldiers and admitted to being a sympathiser of Islamic State.

Khan also told detectives he was trying to copy Farhad Jabar, who shot dead police accountant Curtis Cheng in 2015. He stated his goal was 'to kill and be killed, simple as that'. The jury previously heard that Greenhalgh was walking his dog when Khan attacked him, shouting 'You rape our women, you rape our children, you bomb our countries'.
