Queensland independent MP Jimmy Sullivan has been found dead at an address in Stafford, a suburb of Brisbane. Police were called to the scene on the night of his death and have stated they are not treating it as suspicious.
Mr Sullivan, 44, had represented the Stafford electorate in state parliament since 2020 and was re-elected in 2024. He was expelled from the Labor Party Caucus in May 2025 and had been sitting on the crossbench as an independent.
Premier David Crisafulli expressed shock at the news, offering condolences to Mr Sullivan's family. Opposition Leader Steven Miles also extended sympathies, saying thoughts were with his family, friends, and community.
State parliament speaker Pat Weir revealed that concerns had been raised about Mr Sullivan's wellbeing prior to his death, noting he appeared to be experiencing an issue with addiction. Mr Sullivan had previously spoken about post-traumatic stress following the stillbirth of his first daughter.
In late 2024, Mr Sullivan was directed by then-Opposition Leader Steven Miles to take leave from parliament due to legal and medical matters. He was later expelled from the Labor Caucus for allegedly failing to comply with a safe return-to-work plan. In parliament, Mr Sullivan denied allegations of a domestic incident, stating it involved swearing and was not violent.
