Queensland Police are on the hunt for multiple offenders following a brazen and fast-paced crime spree across the state's south-east over the weekend. The alleged incidents involved a series of stolen vehicles, a hit-and-run, and an armed carjacking, stretching police resources across Brisbane, Logan, and Ipswich.
The dramatic pursuit, which was tracked by the Polair police helicopter, began to unfold on Sunday afternoon. Authorities allege the spree is connected to several earlier thefts, creating a complex web of criminal activity for investigators to untangle.
Polair Tracks Dangerous Motorcycle and Stolen BMW
The police helicopter first spotted a man riding a KTM motorcycle dangerously along Clipper Street in Inala around 2pm on Sunday, December 21. Police allege this motorcycle had been stolen from a home on Moffat Street in Oxley ten days earlier, on Thursday, December 11.
The rider was tracked to Orchard Road in Richlands approximately ten minutes later. There, he allegedly dumped the motorcycle and entered a white BMW X2. This vehicle itself had been reported stolen during a break-in at a Tuggerah Street address in North Booval the previous day, Saturday, December 20.
Hit-and-Run and Armed Carjacking Escalate Situation
The situation escalated shortly after 3:25pm when police were called to a service station on Ipswich Road in Annerley following reports of a hit-and-run. Investigators allege the same offender, now accompanied by another man, abandoned the stolen BMW at the service station.
The pair then allegedly stole an LDV T60 utility vehicle from the scene. The owner of the ute, a man in his 40s, suffered non-life-threatening injuries while trying to prevent the thieves from driving away.
With Polair continuing to monitor from above, officers tracked the stolen LDV to Inala, where tyre spikes were successfully deployed around 5:25pm. The two men allegedly continued driving for a short distance before ditching the ute on Centaurus Street.
Their crime spree then took a more serious turn. The offenders, now armed with a knife, allegedly forced their way into a Hyundai Veloster. A woman who was driving the car and her male passenger were compelled to drive the offenders away from the area.
Victims Escape and Investigation Intensifies
Just before 6pm, the Hyundai stopped in a car park on Browns Plains Road at Browns Plains, allowing the two terrified victims to exit the vehicle. Fortunately, neither sustained physical injuries during the ordeal.
The alleged offenders then fled in the stolen Hyundai, later abandoning it in Sanderling Street at Inala. Police believe they then left the area in another vehicle, suspected to be a black Holden Commodore.
Detectives are also investigating possible links to another crime. They believe the same group may be responsible for a break-in on Chermside Street at Wellington Point in the early hours of Sunday morning, between 3:30am and 3:55am. A black Volkswagen Golf GTI was stolen during that incident.
The investigation into the offenders' whereabouts is ongoing. Queensland Police are appealing to the public for assistance. They urge anyone with information, relevant CCTV, or dashcam footage from the affected areas over the weekend to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers.
