Pipe Bombs Found on Canberra Footpaths Spark Police Investigation

ACT police are investigating after nearly a dozen pipe bombs were discovered on footpaths and in parks in Canberra's north-west. Some of the devices had already detonated, but no injuries have been reported.

Detective Acting Inspector Anna Wronski said 11 pipe bombs were found along a one-kilometre stretch near Lake Ginninderra. Some were intact, while others were partially destroyed. Police are unsure how long they had been there or if more will be found.

Wronski urged the public not to touch the devices and to call triple-zero immediately if they spot any. She emphasized that any explosive in a public place raises serious concern, but the incident is not being treated as terrorism.

Images released by police show silver pipes with caps on both ends, and one image appears to show a fuse extending from a cap. The origin and motive behind the devices remain unknown.
