Man in Court Over Alleged Random Assaults on Wollongong Street, Including Pregnant Woman

A 46-year-old man has faced Wollongong Local Court after allegedly randomly assaulting several people on a Wollongong street, including a heavily pregnant woman. Hao Quoc Trinh was arrested on Tuesday morning following reports that he was seen punching members of the public on Corrimal Street.

Police allege Trinh deliberately barged into a woman who is seven months pregnant, knocking her into a fence. She escaped unharmed. Trinh was taken to Wollongong Hospital for assessment before being charged with common assault.

He appeared in court on Wednesday, where Magistrate Geraldine Beattie refused bail and ordered him to Shellharbour Hospital for mental health assessment, citing “clear reasons” to suspect he is mentally ill.
