Man Charged Over Threatening Emails to Federal MP Anne Webster

A 39-year-old man has been charged after allegedly sending threatening emails to a federal politician. The man, who has no fixed address, was arrested by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) at Brisbane International Airport on Tuesday.

The AFP alleges he sent threatening and harassing emails to Nationals MP Anne Webster, who represents the Victorian electorate of Mallee. The emails reportedly included threats to kill the politician.

The man has been charged with one count of using a carriage service to make a threat to kill and five counts of using a carriage service to harass, threaten or menace. The maximum combined penalty for these offences is 15 years in prison.

He appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday and was remanded in custody. The case is ongoing.
