A man who allegedly fell asleep in a stolen car woke to a police chase that ended with a crash into a tree in Mirrabooka, Perth, early Monday morning.
The incident began when police spotted the vehicle on Balga Avenue and attempted to stop it, but the driver failed to comply, sparking a pursuit.
The chase ended on Beach Road near Alexander Drive around 2am when the car flipped onto its roof after hitting a tree.
Emergency services had to cut the man from the wreckage. He was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
Police confirmed the car had been reported stolen. The Internal Affairs Unit is investigating the circumstances of the initial stop attempt.
