Police Fatally Shoot Knifeman in Caboolture Incident

A 26-year-old man has been shot dead by police after stabbing a man and threatening a woman in Caboolture, north of Brisbane, early Tuesday morning.

Police responded to reports of a stabbing on Beerburrum Road just after 3:40am, where a 54-year-old man had been stabbed in the neck. The armed suspect fled on foot and was later located on Margaret Street, where he was threatening a 28-year-old woman.

Detective Superintendent Ben Fadian said officers attempted to negotiate with the man, but he continued to pose a threat to the woman and the public. Police then shot the man, who died at the scene.

The 54-year-old stabbing victim was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. The woman sustained an arm laceration but declined hospital transport.

Detective Superintendent Fadian stated that initial investigations indicate a loose association among the three individuals, but no intimate relationship. The reason for the disturbance remains unclear, and why the suspect went to Margaret Street, about 600 metres from the initial stabbing, is still under investigation.

The shooting is being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command, with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission and the Queensland coroner.
