ACT police are investigating a teacher who allegedly brought a 3D-printed firearm to a school last week. The incident has raised concerns about the ongoing issue of 3D-printed weapons in the Australian Capital Territory.
According to police, the gun was not shown in class and was taken home later that day. A subsequent search of the teacher's home led to the seizure of the firearm and a 3D printer.
Police believe the teacher's actions were a misguided attempt to demonstrate the capabilities of 3D printing technology. No charges have been laid, and investigations are continuing.
Authorities have issued a warning against possessing or printing 3D guns or gun parts, noting that all items used to create a firearm, including printers and computers, are subject to criminal asset confiscation.
Police urge anyone with information about illegal possession or creation of firearms in the ACT to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via their website.
