Wollongong drivers should prepare for a series of changed traffic conditions over the coming days, with certain trips likely to take an extra 10 minutes of driving time. Here is what night commuters need to know.
West Wollongong: Princes Highway and London Drive
The first of the changes will come into effect on Sunday night, with crews getting to work at the Princes Highway and London Drive intersection in West Wollongong. The traffic light upgrade is likely to last for 10 nights, with changed conditions to be in place between 8pm and 5am (excluding Fridays, Saturdays, and public holidays). To ensure safety, there will be single lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 40kmh.
Figtree: Masters Road
For those travelling along the M1 Princes Motorway between Memorial Drive at North Wollongong and Masters Road at Figtree, there will be delays as crews carry out a spate of work. This will include road repairs and resurfacing, litter collection, gutter and drains clearing, and maintenance of signage, vegetation and safety barriers.
There will be two nights of work - on Monday and Tuesday - on Masters Road between Springhill Road and the M1 Princes Motorway at Figtree, weather permitting. This will result in both westbound lanes on Masters Road being closed on Monday, with the two eastbound lanes to close the following night.
Detours will be in place via the M1 Princes Motorway, Five Islands Road and Springhill Road. Motorists are encouraged to allow up to 10 minutes of additional travel time.
M1 Princes Motorway: North Wollongong to Figtree
Additionally, on the M1 Princes Motorway between Memorial Drive at North Wollongong and Masters Road at Figtree, work will be carried out on both northbound and southbound lanes for four nights. It will begin on Monday at 8pm, weather permitting.
Single lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 40kmh will be in place. There will also be intermittent closures of the on and off ramps on the M1 Princes Motorway between Memorial Drive and Masters Road.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control. For the latest traffic updates, download the Live Traffic NSW app, visit livetraffic.com or call 132 701.
