A dog allegedly abandoned at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas has found a new home with a police officer involved in his rescue. The two-year-old goldendoodle/mini poodle, now nicknamed “Jet Blue,” was left tied to a baggage sizer on February 2 after his owner was denied boarding by airline staff.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), the woman had not completed required online documentation to travel with the dog as a service animal. When denied a boarding pass, she left the dog behind and proceeded to the departure gate. Officers later arrested her at the gate, and she faces charges of animal abandonment and resisting arrest.
During the mandatory 10-day holding period, airport staff and police cared for the dog. When the woman failed to reclaim him, he was placed into foster care. LVMPD officer Skeeter Black and his family, who were already approved through a rescue organization and seeking to adopt a goldendoodle, permanently adopted Jet Blue.
LVMPD expressed gratitude for community support, stating, “What began as a heartbreaking act of abandonment has turned into a powerful example of compassion, teamwork and community partnership.”
