Man Unearths 1950s Ford Popular Car While Gardening During Lockdown

A man in West Yorkshire has made an unusual discovery while gardening during the coronavirus lockdown. John Brayshaw, from Heckmondwike, unearthed what is believed to be a Ford Popular car from the 1950s buried in his backyard.

“It's not something you find every day - it is literally in the middle of my garden,” Brayshaw said. The car, which is grey in color, was found mostly intact, complete with its engine and registration plate.

Brayshaw is appealing for information about how the car came to be buried. He expressed a desire to retrieve the vehicle but noted that it might not be possible to do so by hand.

The reason for the burial remains a mystery. One theory suggests that the price of steel had dropped so significantly at the time that people had to pay to have scrap removed. Another suggestion is that the car might have been a former military vehicle.
