An oceanfront block spanning almost two acres atop Dudley Bluff has hit the market for the first time in more than 60 years. The 7411-square-metre property at 1b Ocean Street is listed via expressions of interest with Peter Shiels of Shiels and Co Property.
The acreage includes an architect-designed two-bedroom, one-bathroom timber cottage with panoramic ocean and bushland views. The listing is attracting a high volume of inquiries from buyers, including nature lovers and those seeking a weekender.
Owner Peter Dalton's parents acquired 13 acres of land in 1960 and lived in a caravan on the site, which was previously a market garden. Dalton lived in a shed on the property while studying architecture at the University of NSW.
In 1967, Dalton's parents sold the 11 acres below the cliff line and asked their son to design a house for the site. He took influence from Japanese architecture and designed the cottage, built from western red cedar. The home features timber floorboards, timber windows, and an open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area connecting to a large deck.
The property's grounds include an orchard with established citrus trees and remnants from a fern mine that operated from 1945 to 1955. According to Cotality, the median house value in Dudley is $1.22 million.
