In response to Nadia Khomami's article on phone use in theatres (6 June) and Rosamund Pike's lecture from the stage (1 June), I agree with the general sentiment but offer a cautionary note. Some of us wear hearing aids controlled via Bluetooth. We sometimes need to adjust settings to hear clearly. From the stage, it may look like we're texting, but actors would need hawk-like eyesight to tell the difference. I'm actually dialling up assistance for full immersion.
Dog's Own House
Regarding the question, 'Should your dog have its own bedroom?' (7 June), is that a joke? My dog has her own house! She kindly lets me stay here, on condition I handle food prep and cleaning and don't use her three-quarters share of the sofa.
Nicola Sturgeon's Salt and Pepper Grinders
To be fair to former Scottish first minister Nicola Sturgeon (31 June), if my husband brought home those Lalique salt and pepper grinders, I'd assume he found them at a charity shop.
Nine Times Table in Base 10
The letters on computing the nine times table (4 June) are fun, but for nine, it only works in base 10. The mathematical questions are why it works and whether it would work in other number bases.
Triggered by Maths
I failed my maths O-level five times. Please, all this nine times table talk is very triggering.
