Olympian Peter Bol and Fiancée Mahtut Yaynu Expecting First Child

Australian Olympian Peter Bol has announced that he and his fiancée Mahtut Yaynu are expecting their first child. The two-time Olympian shared a photo of his pregnant partner on Friday night, describing the news as the 'best news ever'.

Bol, who finished fourth in the 800m at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in a historic performance, faced a challenging 18 months leading up to the Paris 2024 Olympics. He was falsely suspended for doping in January last year, with the ban lifted the following month, but he was not officially cleared until August. The ordeal took a toll on his performance, and he failed to reach the semi-finals in Paris.

Congratulations poured in from fellow athletes, including Channel 7 AFL commentator Abbey Holmes, middle-distance runner Cameron Myers, Olympic boxer Harry Garside, sprinting prodigy Gout Gout, tennis star Thanasi Kokkinakis, and AFL players Mac Andrew and Buku Khamis.

Bol's long-time coach Justin Rinaldi broke down in tears after the runner's Olympic campaign ended, acknowledging the difficulty of the past two years. 'It's hard. I wouldn't want anyone to go through that. We did nothing wrong,' Rinaldi said, adding that public support helped Bol get through the ordeal.
