A truck carrying three brand new Toyota LandCruiser Prados crashed at Kembla Grange on Monday morning, leaving one vehicle thrown onto its side and another teetering on a trailer.
The crash occurred at around 10.20am when the flatbed truck, which was carrying one Prado and towing a trailer with two more, attempted to take a roundabout on Northcliffe Drive outside Bunnings Warehouse.
The impact caused the trailer to tip at a 45-degree angle, throwing one of the Prados onto the road. That vehicle suffered significant roof damage and a broken windscreen. The other car on the trailer remained strapped but was teetering dangerously.
Each LandCruiser Prado is valued at least $73,000. Westbound traffic was brought to a standstill as emergency services attended the scene.
This is not the first car-carrying truck crash in the area. In June last year, six luxury cars worth more than $1 million were destroyed when a truck crashed on Reddalls Road.
Police have launched an investigation and are urging anyone with dashcam footage or information to contact Lake Illawarra Police Station on 4232 5599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
