A new pizza shop has opened in Braddon, taking over a former mechanic's workshop. Pizzeria Officina, located at 4/9 Lonsdale St, is the latest venture from Canberra hospitality duo Anthony Iannelli and Sungyeol 'Sunga' Son, who also run Terra, Bar Outro, and Recess.
The name Officina, which translates to 'workshop' or 'factory' in Italian, nods to the building's history as a tyre and auto shop. The venue operates out of a garage with a roller door, offering a casual dining experience. There is no table service, and guests collect their own cutlery and sharing plates.
The menu features a 48-hour fermented sourdough base, with seven classic pizzas, seven custom creations, and nostalgic snacks. Highlights include a Big Mac pizza and Michelangelo's Pepperoni, inspired by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The drinks list offers natural-leaning wines, beers, and cocktails.
The interior draws on '80s and '90s car culture, with vintage posters and reused tables from Terra. Two original JBL cinema speakers, over six feet tall, dominate the space. Screens play pizza scenes from films, '80s automotive footage, and clips from The Sopranos.
Pizzeria Officina is open Wednesday to Sunday from 5pm for dinner, and Saturday to Sunday from 12pm for lunch.
