A 26-year-old man has died and a woman is fighting for life following a head-on collision on Bussell Highway in Margaret River on Easter Sunday. The crash occurred about 8:10pm AWST when a blue Toyota Corolla travelling south collided with a silver Mazda 3 heading north.
The driver of the Toyota, from East Perth, was killed at the scene. His female passenger sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital. The driver of the Mazda, also a woman, was taken to the same hospital.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or saw either vehicle beforehand to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. The incident is one of several fatal crashes in regional Western Australia over the Easter long weekend.
Earlier, a 19-year-old man died near Bruce Rock on Thursday night after his vehicle crossed to the wrong side of the road and hit a tree. That same day, a 20-year-old man died when his utility hit a tree and caught fire on Collie-Williams Road; his 22-year-old passenger was knocked unconscious but rescued by a passing motorist. In a separate incident, a teenager died after a four-wheel drive rolled near Carnarvon.
WA Police have charged 433 people in an Easter long-weekend blitz targeting dangerous driving.
