Gardens Add 20% to Canberra Home Values, Report Finds

New research reveals that gardens and green spaces are significantly boosting property values in Canberra, with houses featuring greenery selling for a 19.9 per cent premium. The Domain Plant Value Report shows that 49 per cent of house listings in the capital include greenery, the highest proportion nationwide.

Homes with green features also sell faster, spending an average of four fewer days on the market. For units, 22.5 per cent of listings feature green elements such as balcony gardens or communal areas, commanding a 13.7 per cent price uplift and selling eight days faster.

Nationally, about one-third of houses for sale feature greenery, selling for 17.4 per cent more, or an average of $140,000 above the median sale price. Units with greenery achieve a 16.1 per cent premium, roughly $100,000 extra.

The report highlights that as cities grow taller and outdoor space becomes scarcer, greenery is emerging as an essential element of liveable design, enhancing both lifestyle and property value.
